Today started promptly at 5:50 am, as most spring days do for me. I had lots on my agenda as per usual, but today was highly productive in both self-care and future preparation. I got everything I wanted today.
First, I knew the aquatic center opened at 6:00 am on weekdays. The morning was slow to start, as I made my Cosi Nespresso mixing it with maple syrup for sweetening. I stirred around my house to put away some of my things into their correct storage home and prepared my gym bag for a long day.
I’m only working out my legs at this time, trying to prove the spot reduce deniers wrong. I think with brown fat activation, and the appropriate level of stir crazy, I can get my toned, thin legs back before June 21st. I’m committed to trying at the very least.
At the gym I did 30 body weight squats, used all the leg machines at the heaviest I could lift until failure for 3 sets and a warm up. I learned nothing except I have a dire need for new aggressive music playlists for anything cardio. Then I went in the sauna until my stamina evaporated.
In the sauna, I spoke to a gentleman and was reminded on the importance of wood heat out here in the jungle. People from the cities probably judge this, but us Kootenay folk depend on heating our homes the good ol’ fashioned way, with firewood. Utility bills are expensive and damn, it’s just not sustainable to foist this modernization expectation on everyone. We all have different budgets and through industriousness, some are lucky to exploit free home heating in the winter.
After my failure in the sauna, I set off back home because it was still too early for the stores downtown to have opened. Ultimately, I went to 8 shops today; the highlights were:
- Fresh water and foods from Safeway
- Pickup of shelves from Ralcomm ie. Purolator
- My new elephant teapot
- Garden of Eden – amazing flower store!
- Fancy mani/pedi booked for a future date
- New used dresses for summer
- Envelopes from the post office
- INBrew – my future homemade wine design
My home is coming together slowly. The most difficult part is that I don’t have a power drill and have never used one before. I have new shelves to mount in the bathroom, which is sorely lacking appropriate storage for being feminine.

I recently added another product to my repertoire. Self-tanner. My mother always told me “Tanned fat looks better than pale fat” and while I forgive her for calling me fat, she was on the wrong track given that I, seriously shocking that I who did not spend lots of time outdoors after 21, got the dreaded melanoma.
When I got home, I prepped a late lunch and finished cleaning my place. I had to get it to a point it could be shown off, because soon I will be having strangers over. My balcony is still the first space that needs to be finished. Every other space will be quite lived in until then.
Things I need, if anyone cares to volunteer help, include:
- Help moving a bookshelf and table from my mom’s. Then she’ll be fully rid of the burden of my things and able to contend with the burden of her own.
- Help re-arranging furniture in my living room.
- Help decorating and planning my spare bedroom.
- Help mounting shelving to the wall.
- Food (not seafood, oyster is metaphor), because I’m in desperate need of a steak on a barbecue or some daddy ribs these days to keep my fat consumption high without too much sugar and prevent anaemia.
Today, I knew the world was my oyster. I felt liberated from the burden of pretending to be someone else. Even though I did change clothes 4 times, I got to be me the whole day and found the pearl. Thanks to everyone for the superb day and those who set me up for it too.
